How Dwayne Johnson Became an Actor… Dwayne Johnson’s path to Hollywood was long and winding. As a wrestler, he became famous back in 1996 when he started competing in World Wrestling Federation (WWF) matches under the ring name Rocky Maivia. The stage name emphasized that he came from a dynasty of American wrestlers: his father was wrestler Rocky Johnson, and his grandfather was Peter Maivia.
Just like in movies, wrestlers in the WWF have specific roles assigned by the promoters. At first, Johnson performed as a “face” — a good guy. There was a storyline there too, because the “face” had to fight “heels” — the bad guys. Later, he took the ring name The Rock and began performing as a villain.
Thanks to wrestling, Dwayne Johnson gained experience performing in front of cameras and developed his acting skills. Fans wanted to see the tough and charismatic Rock not only in matches, so he appeared on shows and took cameo roles in TV series, and at the turn of the millennium, he was called to the big screen.

Many millennia later, the adventurous O’Connell family finds the tomb and awakens the ancient conqueror.
