Steve gets fired from his file clerk gig only to decide to transform himself into a life coach. What’s a life coach? A life coach is one of these motivational bozos you see on late night cable trying to sell you clarity and confidence in yourself that you probably don’t possess because you’re up late drinking beer and doing crank while watching late night cable.
So, Steve gets his act down and starts posting fliers around town, promoting himself as Sebastian Starr, a new, hot life coach. Problem is, these fliers attract the scorn of his competition as well as the attention of a girl he’s had a crush on. Life isn’t all roses being a life coach.
While amusing and containing enjoyable performances, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something missing here, especially since it clocks in at 25 minutes. I would’ve liked to have seen a bit more conflict, especially with his life coach competition in town. That threat just kinda shows up and disappears without anything happening. I also would’ve liked to have seen Sebastian doing his life coach thing a bit more – failing and succeeding – something to build his character up more and maybe something that would make the abrupt ending not feel so…well…abrupt. But this isn’t Burger King and I can’t always have it my way, so I’ll just leave it at that. Still, “Life Coach” is a funny little film.
