15 DAYS: The Real Story of America’s Pandemic School Closures

By Alan Ng | March 17, 2026

As a parent of a preteen during COVID, I definitely wanted to do my part to “stop the spread.” As dutiful as I felt, it soon became clear that we were not given the whole truth about COVID, and that keeping our children out of school did them no favors. Natalya Murakhver’s 15 DAYS: The Real Story of America’s School Closures is not interested in relitigating the virus, as so many documentaries have already done. She is more interested in exposing the machinery that turned the now-infamous promise of “15 days to flatten the curve” into a deeply researched account of how America’s schools stayed closed far longer than the rest of the world, leaving children and parents to absorb the damage. An affected mother herself, and a staunch Democrat, Murakhver builds the film around families, educators, and public voices who watched the system fail in real time. In turn, she refused to let that failure be buried under bureaucratic spin.

The documentary follows the paper trail and the personal wreckage simultaneously. Murakhver, who co-founded Restore Childhood and became one of the most visible advocates for reopening schools, digs through interviews, public records, and the testimony of parents, coaches, doctors, and journalists to show how political interests, union influence, and institutional self-protection kept classrooms shut while children paid the price. Featured voices, including Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Dr. Scott Atlas, Monica Gandhi, Martin Gurri, Anya Kamenetz, and Jonathan Zachreson, help frame the closures not as fog-of-war blunders, but as a drawn-out policy disaster. We are shown a Zoom meeting of progressive policymakers discussing how they can use the “15 days” and beyond to reshape left-leaning policies. Attending the meeting was Jane Fonda, who declared that COVID was “a godsend for Democrats.”

“…how America’s schools stayed closed far longer than the rest of the world, leaving children and parents to absorb the damage.”

At 69 minutes, 15 DAYS: The Real Story of America’s School Closures is an institutional autopsy with a pulse, showing how the public was played by our government, teachers’ unions, and social justice radicals. Murakhver spent three and a half years making the film, and that distance gives us the chance to critically analyze what exactly happened without the barrage of messaging from our government and media, and to truly examine the effectiveness of these policies.

I suppose my frustration with COVID is bleeding through. Watching the documentary reignited my anger. Not with what was happening to my country, but to my child’s education. Every single question I had while watching politicians and “scientists” is asked and answered. I…we were not alone. Why couldn’t our kids go back to school, knowing the infection rates of children were so low? Why was gathering outdoors forbidden, but during the George Floyd protests, no one questioned it? Why were experts who questioned our handling of the virus silenced…and fired? Why was the rest of the world returning to normal long before the US and California did?

Natalya Murakhver makes a strong case for the mismanagement of the virus response and, as some would suggest, the intentional shutdown of the world. 15 DAYS: The Real Story of America’s School Closures will confirm in your heart that you were right or that you are a white supremacist. What is clear is that when a politician says they care about your children, they really don’t.
