Do you believe in aliens and UFOs? I don’t, but I know many who do. Some believe in their existence, while others take it a step further and believe in government conspiracies. Co-writer/director Jay Sherer’s short film, Disclosure, asks a bunch of questions about what we know and don’t know…believe and don’t believe.
In 1966, two investigators, Audrey Draco (Katie Medved) and Peter Rockford (Fabian Brunetti), are tasked with interviewing experts on the subject of extraterrestrials. The subjects fall on the spectrum of believers and nonbelievers. Dr. Townsend (Jeffrey Bigger) is a skeptic and doesn’t believe witnesses are reliable. Dr. Shire (Kelly Foerster) has done extensive interviews with witnesses. General Clarke (Bobby Lee Black) repeats over and over that what he knows is confidential. Father Alvarez (Art Razo) believes they may be spiritual in nature. Cyril Blum (Brett Schreiber) is a researcher who has already identified several alien species on Earth. Jeremiah Ryker (Jamaal Curry) has more information than he is letting on, but he is more interested in what his interrogators know. Each question delves deeper into what the experts know about the subject. In the first round, we understand their stance on the subject. The second asks for evidence that what they believe is true. In the third round, we learn that some subjects are not being entirely truthful or transparent in their responses.
“Each question delves deeper into what each expert knows about the subject.”
Disclosure is not meant to delve deep down into the subject of aliens on Earth, but scratches the surface just enough to whet the appetite of the curious.
As a film, Sherer and co-writer Nathan Scheck have created an amazing sci-fi thriller set in a black box, where most of the budget is spent on thrift-store costumes. Sherer makes great use of lighting and music to enhance the solid performances from his cast. The dialogue never rambles; it’s engaging and to the point. Though not a convert from my perspective, after watching Disclosure, I’m intrigued.
