Created, written, and directed by Nicole M. Brevard, The Adventures of Maxwell Galaxy launches viewers on a scrappy adventure into outer space. The debut episode introduces a space hero haunted by his past and searching for a fresh start among the stars.

In the first episode of The Adventures of Maxwell Galaxy, our hero Maxwell Galaxy (Stefano Profeta) awakens from hibernation on a distant space station, determined to leave his past behind. On the intergalactic news, widespread economic hardship is reported across the galaxy, with a crucial summit about to take place aimed at restoring stability.

Preparing for a new beginning on what he calls a “galactic utopia,” Maxwell lands his ship at a futuristic city. He soon dons a breathing tube and carries a small plastic bag containing a key and a dog tag. Maxwell’s reputation precedes him; he’s recognized by a few locals, including a woman from his past.

Maxwell visits a digital pawn shop stream to have his belongings scanned and discovers that everything he owns is worthless. Disheartened, Delta Zarnik (Angelica Cavesea) arrives, teasing him about his failed ventures and reminding him of his debts. Yet, this seems like an odd time to arrive.

“Maxwell Galaxy awakens from hibernation on a distant space station, determined to leave his past behind.”

The Adventures of Maxwell Galaxy is a very low-budget sci-fi series. Hats off to writer, director, costume designer, set designer, and editor Nicole M. Brevard. Her makeshift spaceship is designed with an incredible amount of moxie. I’m assuming the set is someone’s living room, and Brevard goes all-in with transforming everyday items and scrapyard junk into a scene straight out of science fiction. It’s Star Wars on a budget. She also employs a great deal of CG imagery, and I love her simple use of lights.

The story itself has a Star Trek-lite vibe as Maxwell moves from planet to planet in search of a home.

The Adventures of Maxwell Galaxy is not perfect. You’ll notice right away that the acting is not great, and a low-budget set still means it looks a bit cheap, but in the end, heart and passion always overcome a multitude of faults. Despite its limitations in budget and performance, its sincerity and creative spirit shine through. Brevard’s DIY approach proves that passion and imagination can take audiences far beyond the stars.
