In Simon King’s horror short, She Came From Outer Space, the lesson is clear: stay away from the mysterious goo. Angela (Signe Naranjo) is a young woman still under the control of her smothering mother. After promising her mom a shopping trip, Angela rushes off to hang with her friends at the park for a jog. In the middle of the run, she experiences side pains and tells the girls she’ll meet them later.
Before Angela can head back, she finds a pool of blood underneath the bridge. They say curiosity killed the cat. In Angela’s case, curiosity made her patient zero for an alien invasion.

“Curiosity made her patient zero for an alien invasion.”
It’s hard not to feel that She Came From Outer Space is a small snippet of a much bigger film. The short film is all narrative with very little subtext. Girl is left alone. Girl finds goo. Girl becomes an alien surrogate. Though Signe Naranjo makes a compelling femme fatale, I want a little more to give me an idea of the alien’s agenda and why poor Angelais is the chosen one.
That said, She Came From Outer Space is a low-budget indie that shows just how much you can do with so little. If I knew the subtext and had a few grand in my treasure chest underneath a pool of blood, I might just invest in this one.

"…Stay away from the mysterious goo."
