Writer/director Ashley Nicole’s short The Screeching may be one of the most creative and impressive horror films of the year. A farmer named Linda (Marie Forster), armed with only a pitchfork, must face off against an evil owl living inside her barn.
“…armed with only a pitchfork, she must face off against an evil owl…”
Made with cut-out images and miniature props, this little short is bursting with originality and style. Its chilling score by Will Rogers gives life to and moves the static images in the film. The Screeching would be right at home as an episode of Lore. It has all the building blocks of a compelling spooky story: atmosphere, music, and leaves enough up to the viewer’s imagination to create the sense of fun that great horror films pull off.
An inventive short, perfect for the Halloween season that even the most casual horror viewer will appreciate. Beware, you may get the sudden urge to call up some friends and make a short of your own.
