FILM MAUDIT 2.0 FESTIVAL 2024 REVIEW! Ever since This is Spinal Tap, the mockumentary has become a genre unto itself. In Ryan McGlade and Molly Wurwand’s comedic feature, My Imaginary Life For Someone, the pair produce their own mockumentary that feels fresh while simultaneously inducing the proper cringe-inducing laughs.
My Imaginary Life for Someone delves into the lives of five Beverly Hills housewives, who give us a tour of their personal lives and how they manage to find peace and happiness in their lives.
The film opens with one young, busty, plastic surgeon-addicted wife putting on birthday cake candles for her husband’s 100th birthday…a fire hazard in the making. Later the pair is visited by a stranger at their doorstep, who has unfinished business to attend to with the husband.
“…delves into the lives of five Beverly Hills housewives, who give us a tour of their personal lives…”
The next industrious wife has built a mansion branded to her husband’s business. She calls it the “House that Infinity Built.” Her work is quite spectacular…as long as it doesn’t conflict with trademark laws.
Our next wife is one of the foremost collectors of Princess Diana memorabilia. Her collection is quite extensive, so much so that she has immersed herself in the tragic life and lore of Princess Diana to the point that she finds her life floating well beyond the boundaries of Diana’s actual life.
Another wife searches of peace amid the chaos that comes with being filthy rich. Her only solace comes in eating bagel bits by the pool while meditating on affirmation tapes that she recorded for herself.
"…If you're planning on doing a mockumentary of your own, watch My Imaginary Life for Someone and take notes."
