In the July 10, 2006 episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert showed off his mock lightsaber skills in front of a green screen. Shortly thereafter, fans of the show began compositing Stephen and his lightsaber moves on virtual environments and then posting them to YouTube. Impressed with the efforts, Colbert decided to create the “Stephen Colbert Green Screen Challenge.” Watch Colbert’s announcement below:
