John Carlos Frey’s indie feature “The Gatekeeper” takes on a political and human rights controversy that’s the subject of more than a little heated debate:
“The Gatekeeper” is a true-to-life drama depicting the current civil unrest occuring at the U.S./Mexican border. Adam Fields, a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, is vigilant about keeping the flood of undocumented immigrants at bay. He indulges his racist beliefs by moonlighting with an extreme right wing organization. Withoutsupport or approval from the U.S. Border Patrol, Adam goes undercover to expose and publicize the criminal nature of Mexicans illegally pursuing freedom in America.
The feature has taken home the Phoenix Prize from the most recent Santa Barbara International Film Festival, as well as a “Best of Fest” award from the San Diego Latino Film Festival.
