Five student film finalists have been selected in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Student Academy Awards Honorary Foreign Film category. The winning filmmaker will be flown to L.A. to meet the winning film students from the United States and participate in a week of Academy-sponsored activities and social events. The awards ceremony will be held on June 9th, 2002 at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
(insert drumroll)…And the Honorary Foreign Film Award finalists are:
Feeding Desire, Martin Strange-Hansen, National Film School of Denmark in Copenhagen. ^ Inferno, Paul Kousoulides, National Film and Television School, Beaconsfield, United Kingdom. ^ Rocks, Chris Stenner, Heidi Wittlinger and Arvid Uibel, Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. ^ Shadow, Robin Von Har Denborg, Deutsche film und Fernsehakademie Berlin, Germany. ^ Viktor and His Brothers, Marianne Persson, Dramatiska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.
The winning foreign student film of 2000, Quiero Ser by Florian Gallenberger of Germany, won the Oscar in the Live Action Short Film category at the 73rd Academy Awards. And Kleingeld, by Marc-Andreas Bochert of Germany received a nomination in the Live Action Short Film category at the 72nd Academy Awards.
