Who doesn’t love a good road movie? Director Richard Wong and writer Erik Linthorst’s Come As You Are is probably one of the more original road-trip films to come around in a while. The story surrounds three disabled virgins taking said road trip to a brothel in Montreal. Yeah, that old story, right?
Scotty (Grant Rosenmeyer) has lived with a muscular disorder for his entire life and requires assistance for practically everything in his life, including eating, drinking, and relieving oneself. As he says, the only thing that really works is his head and his boner. Every day, Scotty spends time at a rehabilitation center, where he has a reputation of being something of a dick to everyone, particularly Mo (Ravi Patel), who is blind.

Upon the arrival of a new client Matt (Hayden Szeto), who is wheelchair-bound, Scotty gets the idea for Mo, Matt, and himself to sneak away from their families and take a road trip to a brothel in Montreal, that specializes in servicing individuals with special needs. Mind you. These guys are all in their mid-twenties and older. What they are all actually escaping are overly protective family members who believe they can’t do anything on their own.
The guys escape with the help of a traveling nurse, Sam (Gabourey Sidibe), and her van. With any road trip, there are hilarious high jinks and inopportune moments, like Sam going into insulin shock and the boys having to drive off in Sam’s van with the blind Mo being the only one of the three, who can operate the vehicle.
