It’s getting close! The 9th Annual IFP Los Angeles Film Festival will take place June 11 – 21 and the line-up of 200 plus films has been announced.
The festival’s Opening Night Gala selection will be Lions Gate Films’ The Cooler. The film is directed by Wayne Kramer, who wrote the screenplay with Frank Hannah, and stars William H. Macy, Alec Baldwin, Maria Bello, Shawn Hatosy, Ron Livingston, Paul Sorvino and Estella Warren. “The Cooler” stars Macy as a man whose luck is so bad, he’s hired by unscrupulous Las Vegas casinos to break other people’s hot streaks simply by hanging around them. But as his luck changes for the better, he begins to lose his “cooling” talents.
IFC Films’ “Camp” will close the festival on June 21 as the Closing Night Gala selection. Written and directed by Todd Graff, the film stars Alana Allen, Sasha Allen, Joanna Chilcoat, Steven Cutts, Robin de Jesus, Anna Kendrick, Daniel Letterle, Vince Rimoldi, and Tiffany Taylor. Based on an actual summer camp for young actors, singers and dancers, “Camp” is the dramatic, humorous, and show-stopping story of a group of extraordinary kids growing up and discovering who they are.
It was also announced that George Hickenlooper’s documentary, “Mayor of The Sunset Strip,” will make its World Premiere as a Centerpiece Premiere at the festival. “Mayor of The Sunset Strip” is Hickenlooper’s musical documentary about the Homeric journey of pop impresario Rodney Bingenheimer through the world of fame and rock ‘n’ roll.
The Festival Center (including live entertainment, eating areas, box-office, etc.) will be located at the 8000 Sunset (outdoor plaza). The festival will utilize screening facilities including the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theaters, Directors Guild of America, the John Anson Ford Amphitheater, and the ArcLight Cinerama Dome.
