Female filmmakers are getting the attention they deserve at USC’s First Look Festival, to take place October 5th – 10th. A total of 29 films will screen at both the DGA Theatre in Hollywood and on campus at the Norris Theatre, many of which have been directed by women.
Jennifer Quintenz, 27, is a young filmmaker from Albuquerque, New Mexico, whose latest work, “Karma, Inc.,” reflects a female point of view on life’s spiritual opportunities.
Twenty-seven year-old Barbara Stepansky is another example of the female factor taking a more prominent role in the filmmaking process. A native of Gorlice, Poland, Stepansky has drawn on her own Polish childhood to spin a tale about romance and the shattered dreams that sometime result. It’s called “Vacation” and is based on her own experiences with an early boyfriend in Munich, Germany.
Brazilian native Miriam Kim debuts her latest film, “Angelus Plaza,” at this fall’s First Look. Using her engaging, narrative, documentary style, Kim weaves a tale about three senior citizens taking life one day at a time.
