“I Woke Up Early the Day I Died,” a star-studded comedy based on an unproduced screenplay by indie scion Edward D. Wood Jr., won top honors at the Second Annual B-Movie Film Festival, held in Syracuse, NY. Among its outstanding 6 awards, “I Woke Up…” took home Best B-Movie honors, as well as the Best Director distinction for first timer Aris Iliopolous.
The always sinister Billy Zane won the Best Actor award for his role as a demented thief with an acute sonic disability, while co-star Christina Ricci received the Best Star Cameo Award (did this exist before her?) for her brief appearance in the film as an underage prostitute. “I Woke Up Early the Day I Died” also ambitiously captured the Festival’s awards for Best Cinematography and Best Set Design.
