The Coolidge Corner Theater of Brookline, MA. is a far cry (or scream) from the stucco-pasted multiplexes that dot the rest of this fair country. Inside the classically-restored 1857 building (once home to a thriving general store) plushy opulence is the order of the day. An ever-changing slate of classic and art house films makes the Coolidge both completely unique and loved by the locals — so much so that the movie house has been voted Best in Boston.
Through October, the Coolidge will welcome you in and get you just as comfy as ever, and then they’ll scare you witless with their month-long Horror Film Fest. On Friday and Saturday nights beginning [ October 6th ] and ending in a 12-hour movie marathon on [ October 29th, ] the Coolidge will screen such Italian classics as Dario Argento’s psychological masterpiece “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage” and Mario Bava’s “Black Sunday”. And on Halloween, settle in for a 12-hour screamfest featuring “The Masque of the Red Death,” everybody’s favorite prom queen “Carrie,” and, of course, “Halloween”.
