Burr Steers’ new feature “Igby Goes Down” will open the 28th Annual Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) at the Paramount Theatre on May 23rd at 7:30PM. “Igby” tells the tale of a boy who needs to undo a few knots in his family ties:
Igby Slocumb (Kieran Culkin) is at war with the stifling world of “old money” privilege into which he was born. With a schizophrenic father (Bill Pullman), a self-absorbed, distant mother (Susan Sarandon), and a shark-like young Republican big brother (Ryan Phillipe), Igby figures there must be a better life out there and he sets out to find it.
Writer/director Steers has also acted in “The Last Days of Disco” and “Reservoir Dogs” (he was a background voice on the radio). His next film, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” will debut it 2003.
