NY ANIMATION FESTIVAL RETURNS

The New York Animation Festival, showcasing the best of independently produced short film and video animation from throughout the world, returns on Friday, September 14, for a one-week run at Cinema Village, 22 East 12th Street in New York
From dark and brooding narratives to satirical and biting social commentary, the NYAF transcends traditional cartoons, emphasizing new works by artists and independent filmmakers. The 2001 Festival presents a range of animation from around the corner to around the globe – including a program of New York City’s own animators, cutting edge works by up-and-coming young directors, cult favorites including Bill Plympton and Emily Hubley, Oscar winners and nominees, and many international award winners. A “Best of the Festival” program will be presented the last four days of the Festival, September 17-20, at 2pm, 4pm, 7pm, and 9pm.
Awards will be given in the following categories, selected by an international panel of judges: Best of Festival, Best International Film, Best U.S. Film, Best New York City Film, Best Student Film and Best Use of Computer/Digital Animation.
Tickets are $9 for General Admission and $7 for students. Advance tickets are available at the Cinema Village box office between 2pm and 6pm, through September 13. From September 14 – 20 only day of show tickets are available.
