The film flips the script on the bloated genre of twentysomething road-trip flicks, begins with a broken-down convertible in the middle of nowhere and then works backward in time. The interwoven tales of how the characters wind up stranded together are laced with absurdist subplots, heavy-duty drama, some great comedic moments and an awesome score by local composer Jake Rodriguez.
But the real dazzler in this film is David Owen. As Pete, a seemingly "regular guy" who has a thing for underage girls, his timing and presence are both incredible. In a scene that finds him hiding out from his teenage girlfriend's father, submerged in a bubble bath fully clothed, he delivers what I think may be one of the best one-liners on film.
