Did nobody pick up season 3 of "Mr. Show?"
And while I'm sure the "Two Towers" DVD is groovy, I think I'll probably just wait for the inevitable gigantor special edition of all three films that'll come out some time next year. I'll probably look like Gollum after locking myself up in my house for twelve hours straight to watch it.

Hey Rory,
Is Season three coming to television before or after the release of the 2nd Season DVDs?

Season Three's coming to television after the release of the Season 2 DVDs (September 9). Season 3 begins on October 28 with the first episode airing commercial-free.

I missed an episode early on in Season 2 and no one had it taped so I just let it ride until the DVDs come out.
Good. This way I can watch 2 before 3.
Thanks.

Or you could also catch the "24" marathon (season 2) taking place next week (September 1-2) at midnight on Monday-midnight on Tuesday. I wondered why they wouldn't do this marathon the day before Season 2 is released on DVD and I see the reasoning. Best to have the marathon next week, rather than have less people buy the DVDs on the day they come out, due to having seen the marathon or taping the episodes.
But personally, I'm waiting for the DVDs too what with 44 branched deleted scenes and the feature that allows you to put those deleted scenes BACK into the show. I'm also looking forward to the audio commentaries as well.

Got it too. I like seeing the movie again, but the extras are lame. Can't wait for the extended edition.

Not sure if that's happening in Canada - if it's on Fox then it probably will (as we get Buffalo's feed here in Toronto).
I think 24 along with Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Curb Your Enthusiasm is among the best "tee vee" out there.
When you watch 24 in widescreen on the DVD's it's as if you're watching an extremely engaging 24 hour film.
I also find that it's better to watch the DVD's without commercial interruption or the bother of waiting another week to catch up as well.

I wholeheartedly agree and I would include HBO's The Wire (also on Movie Central and Canadaland) on that list. Strong writing from former Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon (who's non-fiction book Homicide was the impetus for Barry Levinson's NBC series, Homicide: Life on the Streets) and former Baltimore homicide detective Edward Burns, good direction from a whole host of directors, good casting, acting, cinematography. It's the only television show that's satisfied me since Homicide went off the air.
It'll be a bittersweet day should HBO decide to release it for sale on DVD since any HBO series on disc generally runs about $100.00 CDN (up here).

Must say, Homicide was the. greatest. cop. show. ever.
Haven't seen the Wire, but I'm kicking myself as it rises in the ranks as yet another quality HBO drama.

And A&E did a pretty nice job with the DVD release of seasons one and two of H:LotS. Absolutely worth the price of purchase .
Oh, and to, uh, keep this on topic I think I'll wait until November for the extended LotR: The Two Towers. Yup. ;)

Same on the LOTR set, although I did get both the theatrical and the extended last time.
Peter Jackson's interview in the preview for the extended version, on the theatrical version, of the first film pretty much says it all about standard and "Director's" versions.
And yes, already got that 1/2 season of Homicide. It rules of course.
You can almost see the breakdown of Crosetti as the story progresses.

Even while losing it Steve Crosetti was definitely the man which pretty much makes John Polito The Man.

Not to mention being a killer supporting character in many of the Cohen Bros. flicks.

Of course, now that I think of it Jon Polito could've made for an excellent supporting character in LotR. What do you think, Jon Polito as Gollum? Jon Polito as Samwise? Or Jon Polito as Wormtongue?
I'd pay to see that!

My brother just got the DVD but I'm holding out for the Extended Edition. The Fellowship E.E. was a pretty solid improvement over an already excellent adaptation, but I want to see what they do with the Two Towers extended cut, because I was extremely unhappy with the second half of the film.
The changes they made to Fellowship made it a better movie, but the changes they made to T.T. just seemed arbitrary, confusing, and basically took all the teeth out of the book. Kind of pisses me off, actually. Maybe the extended version will repair some of the damage.

Gee I dunno... He may have been cool as Gimli, but I think he should stick to being typecast as sweaty, loud and obnoxious characters.
And that is weird about the misspelling of his name on the box cover. Didn't even notice that... bizarre.

I'd love to see a sweaty, loud and obnoxious hobbit sized Jon Polito, chomping on a stogey and stomping his big, hairy feet, cussing and spitting at everyone.
Maybe if someone would film an adaptation of Harvard National Lampoon's Bored of the Rings, then it would be more appropriate.

I picked this up despite the EE coming out soon. With all the first week sales going on at various retailers, I figure there are a lot worse films that I've paid $15 for. I don't mind being double-dipped when the first dip is so cheap.

It is kinda unfortunate about the extras, but the extras on the theatrical FotR set weren't all that hot snot either. Essentially promo stuff, but if you're a fan, a preview of the next film (as well as the EE) makes it reasonably worthwhile. That said, I expect next year's Return of the King theatrical disc to be LEAN. :D
I didn't think the extra footage helped FotR all that much (half I liked, half made the film skip a groove IMO), but I'm really looking forward to extra footage for Two Towers. I thought the new characters got shorted a bit, and I anticipate a smoother result this time around. I hear Faramir gets some extra beef which should be nice.

See, that's what I'm talking 'bout. He was a noble character in the book. In the movie he's a typical human weasel. Boy, they'd better make good in the EE or I'm gonna have to write a strongly worded letter. And tape it to a brick.

*shrug*
Noble? Bland, more like.
It might work for a book, but not for a movie. Score one for Jackson.

Hey I like Polito also he was badass on Homicide and was completely scummy in The Crow but there's no one I would've rather seen as Wormtongue than Brad Dourif. Dourif is one of those actors that can take a small role and make that character seem larger than originally intended.

Brad Dourif is a most excellent Wormtongue. My Jon Polito/LotR comments are made in jest. I couldn't actually see Polito doing LotR except in a satirical version.
