I found : The Cider House Rules and The Iron Gaint.

The Al Pacino movie is probably The Insider.

My guess is that the common something is that they're all based upon books.

I'm not sure about #6 and #8, and those may render my answer incorrect, but I believe the common thread is that all of these movies were released in 1999.

So there you have it GeGe. Even without knowing #8, it's fairly certain that the common thread is all of them being released in 1999, one of the great golden years of movie history.

And no, the only one based on a book was "The Cider House Rules". The rest had original screenplays.
