I just purchased the Blue Underground DVD collection of the Blind Dead flicks.

It comes in a cool coffin shaped box. It contains all four of the Blind Dead movies uncut and digitally remastered in High Def. I am looking forward to viewing them all.

I almost balked at the price tag ($100) but couldn't resist.

Long Live the moldy, horse-ridin' Templars.

Jacques DeMolay shall be avenged.

I saw this over the weekend, and although I was tempted, that $127.99 price tag (L.A. is a more expensive place to live) reminded me that I didn't like the Blind Dead movies that much. Then again, I've only ever seen the first two. *hangs head in shame and slink away, calling back over the shoulder* Let us know how they are, Judex. You and I have similar tastes in EuroTrash horror, so a thumbs up from you may mean I'll have to go drop the C-note plus.

Baron, I don't know if you will find the collection worth the hefty price tag. However, the prints (I have only watched the last two so far as they are the ones I had never seen before) are beautiful. The transfers are incredible.

I love the Blind Dead movies, but watching two of the films in tandem, I found that there is kind of a sameness that makes me wonder if four films wasn't a bit of overkill.

The booklet that comes with the collection is indepth and a great read. It includes a history of the Templars that is slanted more towards evil Baphomet worshippers rather than persecuted religious group.

The uncut nature of the DVD set means it includes more gore and nudity than in the U.S. releases. I haven't watched the first two yet (which I have seen before) so I couldn't tell you just how extensive the editing was for American audiences.

Interestingly, the second film, named in the set as "Return of the Evil Dead," comes in both U.S. and European versions. It will be fun to compare the two just to see how much was hacked out for us Yanks.

I am also looking forward to the Bonus DVD which looks at the director's career (name withheld from the post because I would mangle it beyond all recognition and am too lazy to look up the proper spelling on the web).

My only complaint about the presentation is the subtitles for the Spanish language audio tracks are imbedded. I would have perferred the removable variety.

Was it worth the $100 price tag. As far as I am concerned, Hell Yes.
