Hey guys,

I am currently researching movie filming locations from all over the country, and will hopefully have a very detailed list soon. I am trying to focus more on locations outside of New York and Hollywood, as there are already multiple projects on those. Also, I am looking into other unique restaurants, events, and other attractions in these out-of-the-way places. If any of you movie buffs have any information, please let me know!

Thanks,

-Jeff Koon

Are you trying to find locations that have already been used in a film, or are you looking for potential locations?

Ones that have already been used in a film. For example, I have this on Waterboy:

Water Boy (1998) – Deland, FL

DeLand: The university scenes were shot at Stetson University, the oldest private college in Florida. The stadium scenes were shot at Spec Martin Municipal Stadium. Stetson University does not have a football team, so the crew shot these scenes at the home of the DeLand High Bulldogs. It is located at 260 E. Euclid Ave. The 'scholastic tests' were given in the old Hulley Gym on the west side of Boulevard at Stetson University. The scene of Sandler riding the lawnmower was shot near the Stetson University gates. Also, the bar scene was shot on Alabama Avenue near Spec Martin Stadium.

Starship Troopers (1997) – Powder River, WY

Powder River: Hell’s Half Acre on Route 20

Hell’s Half Acre is a canyon filled with jagged rocks in an otherwise flat and desolate environment. The gorge is around 150 feet deep and is approximately 320 acres in size. Not much remains from the filming however besides a few spent blank shells. Nonetheless, the area is well worth checking out as it is so different than anything you will ever see. Thus, it was an obvious choice for an alien environment for Starship Troopers. Above the jagged formations sits a real piece of Americana - a simple diner that cooks up whatever you want and offers a plethora of souveniers for visitors to buy. The odd sign of the restaurant features a devil welcoming all newcomers.

speaking of the university, setting...you gotta include the locations for "Road Trip" too. Emory, Tech, UGA. ^_^ but im sure you already knew that. the scene where Breckin Meyer is on a pay phone was shot in outside the English building at UGA & that phone was a prop.

Amai,

Thanks for the info - I'm actually living in Athens, GA right now, and learning about Roadtrip being filmed here was one of the things that prompted me to start this project. I don't know about the locations at Emory and Tech though - do you happen to know their specific locations?

Thanks

i knew a few people who were extras in "Road Trip" and when i saw them on screen, they were going to & from classrooms ...Tech classrooms.

the beginning of the film where whats her name is on a scooter & theres a couple making out against a tree, that was Emory. the Quad (Quadrangle) at Emory.

the end where the main characters are walking out of their van towards a school building, that part was at Emory.

"The scenes supposedly taking place at the University of Austin were actually filmed at Emory University in Atlanta." - http://www.moviemistakes.com/film1074/trivia

"Georgia Tech in the movies

Certain shots from the tour portions of the movie Road Trip (2000) (when Tom Green's character is giving the tour) were shot on Georgia Tech's campus. Buildings filmed include the main library (look for a fountain with no water in it) and Skiles classroom building.

The Georgia Tech library was also featured as the library at the fictitious Atlanta A&T University in the movie Drumline (2002). Tech is also mentioned by name in the movie, when the only white student at the black university is asked (jokingly) "what's the matter, not enough black kids at Georgia Tech?"

The Georgia Tech football team was portrayed near the end of the 1993 film Rudy. In a famous scene from the movie, the title character finally gets a chance to play for Notre Dame as he is put into the ballgame towards the closing moments of the Irish-Yellow Jacket matchup."

New info I just got - free to visit which is always a plus

Iowa

Field of Dreams (1989) - Dyersville, Dubuque

Dyersville: Filming took place at the Lansing Family Farm (28963 Lansing Road) over the course of 14 weeks during the summer of 1988. The baseball field was constructed in a mere three days and modifications were made to the house to accommodate filming equipment. Great lengths have been taken not to over-commercialize the site, being true to the spirit of the movie. As a result, the field is never reserved and always open to tourists.

I assume you know the IMDB keeps filming locations for its listed movies. It's not detailed (city, state, country), but it's a start.

Thanks - I usually get my start looking on there to find general locations (i.e. the cities where the majority of the filming took place), and then get in touch with local film commissions and chamber of commerces to get more detailed info.

The portions of "Rain Man" that took place in Cincinnati were actually filmed there. The diner across the river is located in Covington, KY. And, the bridge they went across (called the Humming Bridge by locals due to its metal grid road surface) was a preliminary design by the guy who went on to build the Brooklyn Bridge.

I know parts of "Fresh Horses" (Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald) were filmed on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. They did so while I was atttending.
