Hello. I just happened to stumble into these forums and thought I would give my two cents.
I am a hugh fan of the Matrix so I am probably biased but I think the trilogy was done perfect and exceded my wildest expectations.
From what I have heard from most people I talk to and from scanning different forums most people seemed to think some guy should have walked onto the screen five minutes before the end and layed every last detail and plot line out for them in cronological order. I dont belive we are supposed to understand everything perfectly. That is what makes a movie great, if you are talking to your friends about it and pondering things three hours after watching it. Thats what made movies like Identity and Memento so good.
Now when I look over the entire trilogy I dont see a first movie that did good and then they said hey lets make some more money. I see a plan.
In a lot of ways these films mirror another great sci fi adventure star wars.
The first movie was about destiny. A young man looking up to the stars, knowing there is a bigger world out ther e somewhere. By the end of the movie he has touched the serface and you realise that we have just taken our first step into this greater world. There are a lot of questions and a lot of answers. An d a lot more questions that dont go unanswered. Like any first film there is a lot of dialog and pondering.
The second movie was about purpose. Everyone has matured and we begin to see the bigger picture. Our characters are growing and learning and the threat is also much larger. A lot more questions are posed and a few are answered. Our characters are streached to their very limits and it seems like there is very little hope. There is more dialog but there is a lot more action and consequences.
Finally the third is about choices. Everything is falling into place. The path is laid before them and now each must decide what he will do. We see the consequences of past choices (ie takeing all the ships out for the surprise attack that got them all destroyed) and we see that when the pressure is on some crack and some persevere. There are some fulfilling questions answered and a few left dangleing to make us imagine still further ideas for weeks and months to come. There is less need for dialog , everything that needs to be said is and now we see the game played out to its final and fulfilling conclusion.
