There are few people in this world that have ever heard of "Escapade in Japan," but if you want to get a glimpse of postwar Japan, this is a great start. Also, if anyone is old enough to remember "Lassie" and Jon Provost, you will see Jon doing an amazing performance in this film, considering he was only about six at the time. The great thing is, I stumbled upon his website, told him how much I enjoyed the film and he wrote back with a thank you note. As he was a childhood idol, it was just great to get the note and realize that even if a star is faded, a star can be a wonderful, real person and acknowledge his/her fans, years later. Anyway, just sharing this tidbit. The film is probably available only on video, but it's still worth looking at. :)

Oh, that's an interesting old film to talk about. It used to turn up on TV somewhat frequently, but I never got to see it.

In the mid-to-late 1950s, a number of US movies were shot in Japan (most notably two Brando flicks, "The Teahouse of the August Moon" and "Sayonara"). Most of the films of that era are badly dated now and feel like travelogues, but I would be curious to see this particular title.
