Am I the only one that gets ticked off by this DVD tactic? Whenever movie studios get ready to release a sequel to some movie, suddenly an ultimare edition of the first appears on the DVD shelves. They did it with "The Bourne Identity" and "The Transporter." Now that they are coming out with a dumb looking sequel to "Carlito's Way," lo and behold, an ultimate edition of the original.

All the studios are trying to do is drum up some box office for the sequel. I mean, these so called ultimate editions consist of a few boring making of docs which are little more than commercials, a couple of minutes of extra footage that was few usually cut for good reason, and a preview for the sequel.

These DVD ploys are ridiculous. I never double dip. What's funny is when a DVD comes out it's ALWAYS a special edition, I always wonder where the regular edition is. Probably in a bootleg market in Bangladesh.

With the exception of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I never "double dip". These special editions have the convenience of putting all the bonus material on a seperate disk. If I already own the movie, I just Netflix the bonus material, watch and return.

I bought the "Ultimate Edition" of Team America and then got home and found out it was actually the "Ultimate Edition Fullscreen Version". I couldn't watch it in Fullscreen so I returned it for another movie since they didn't have the Widescreen version. That was total crap man. A "Ultimate Edition" should have the film in both formats and not two seperate versions.

but even worse is when we get incidents like Sin City, where the initial DVD is an utterly bare-bones affair with no special features whatsoever save a "Behind the Scenes Featurette" that was likely straight from HBO, whilst the director's cut we were all promised before the damn movie even started shooting gets no promotion and is delayed until Dec. 13. but don't worry, those collectible slipcovers totally make up for it, assuming you can find the ones that aren't Goldie/Marv or Hartigan/Nancy. this shit is unacceptable, and is gonna bite hollywood in the ass any day now.

The real irony is that the director's cut set will also include the original cut. (http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&s=1&c=7667&n=1&burl=)

I knew it would happen. Everyone told me to get the barebones, but I dont waste money that way. Only a month and a half later, and voila. Well worth the wait.

Nowadays it pretty much pays not to jump on any initial disc release. Heed the rumours and hold out.

And if you absolutely cannot wait to see your new favorite film again, borrow it from a friend who didn't heed the warning.

How long do I have to hold out for the untampered-with Star Wars box-set?

20 or thirty years. Perhaps fourty-ish.

I'm banking on 2015. Nothing official from the Skywalker Ranch compound, but it'll be that time when Lucas decides he needs more money and rejects his notion of "only presumed perfection" shown in his movies. At that point, he won't mind the strings on the X-Wing fighters.

I think at this point we needn't worry about a Star Wars remake seeing as how Lucas has basically done that already.

How quickly can you hustle your butt over to Ebay? The last time I checked DVD box sets authored off the remasterd laser discs were pretty easy to find.

Say, that reminds me of a great idea I had. A Gilliam-directed "Martian Time-Slip" with old-style Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon rocket ships (you know, with the smoke drifting up from the tailpipe and sparks falling down).

Well, I can dream...
