I may have squawked about this before, but anyone know if "From Beyond" will ever come out on DVD? A nice two disk version like "Re-Animator" from Elite would be just the ticket.

I remember Stuart Gordon talking about it on the commentary for Dagon -- I think he said its looking good for a release, but its been a while since I watched the commentary, so my memory's a little cloudy. Unfortunately I don't remember many details, so I hope this isn't too much of a tease...

I've never seen From Beyond and I've always wanted to...I might have to hunt it down on VHS...

I consider it the sister film to Re-Animator. It's pretty hilarious. I'm not much of a fan of Re-Animator 2 and 3, but then, Stuart Gordon didn't have anything to do with them.

They just don't seem to make horror movies like Stuart Gordon anymore. It's all possessed ghost children and "haunted" houses. I haven't seen "Dagon" yet; any good?

Yeah, Re-Animator 2 & 3 were pretty bad.

Unfortunately, Dagon was also pretty bad. Some of the ideas were pretty cool, and a lot of the makeup was neat, but their budget seems very stretched and the story suffers...the budgetary confines also seem to have greatly reduced the amount of gore and special fx in the film, which sucks because Gordon knows his way around special fx really well. The idea is very Lovecraft-y -- a perfect match for Gordon! -- so its a shame to see the film fizzle out.

The last great Gordon film I saw was King of the Ants. Amazing, brutal. And like SG points out on the commentary (great track, by the way), the film is structured in four acts! Very unusual for a narrative film.

MGM is supposed to be putting this out in time for Halloween this year. They've also apparently dug up all of the shots that Gordon had to cut out to get an R-rating from the MPAA. They haven't said whether they'll show up as deleted scenes or it they're going to splice them into the movie and release and unrated cut.
