Deep Roy playing all of the oompah loompahs? That's very cool! This trailer looks amazing.

Is it just me or is there a little Michael Jackson on display in Depp's Wonka?

It's only you. Depp is freaky, but not oozing with an aura of pedophilia or plastic surgery.

Sorry fellas, but I HATE that this classic childhood gem has been remade...Depp or no Depp!

"Good day Sir!"

I agree Ellen, even though I also hated the original. I am too much a book fan to give credit to either.

Sorry Mr. Dahl.

I don't get why anyone wouldn't want to see this movie. I'd understand people shying away from Cat in the Hat ... which looked awful, but this?

Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Roy Deep (which is funny) ... and that cute boy from Finding Neverland! Are you kidding me? All the colors, all the chocolate, all the goodness, all the absurdly weird?

I will not understand those who do not want to watch this flick.

I'm with you man, although I hope this is better than Mars Attacks.

I agree with you too, broson7 -- I didn't like the orignal, either. I thought it was weird and creepy in all the wrong ways, and boring as hell. Its one of those movies that I *should* like -- I love Gene Wilder, I love weird shit, and I love the book. But the film never worked for me. So I'm willing to give the material a fresh start on the big screen.

Judging from the trailer, at least the visuals look right. Now if only the script is good, we're in business.

The rating reasons tick me off: "PG - Quirky Situations, Action, and Mild Language". Didn't know quirkiness was a big no-no for the MPAA.

That's awesome. I love how the MPAA is required to have these now. There must be a website out there somewhere for the best ones.

I'm trying to think of some off the top of my head, but it just ain't happn'n.

There is just something about Depp's use of rock stars as the basis for this characters that should be a lil worrisome... Keith Richard's for Pirates ... and now Marilyn Manson for Charlie, these are two of the most controversial men in the rock industry, one for their use of drugs and the other with debatable links to Satanism.
Although Depp was able to use the persona of Richard's beautifully, I have doubts for the use of Manson.
Also its a given that Wonka doesn't like kids, but this 1970's kids comedy meets Marilyn Manson look that Depp's got going on ... SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK FOR ME!
I should also mention that the Tim Burton films I have seen haven't impressed me by any means. But with this film I really hope I am proven wrong and that this film somehow remains truer to the novel (although I haven't read it) and that this too shall become a classic worth defending (almost like the first one).

Wait, so are you talking about how he looks or his performance? I haven't heard anything about him basing his performance on Marilyn, but if he does I think he's fucked. Doesn't look like it from the trailer, though.

I agree with you that many of Tim Burton's films have sucked (Batman Returns, Mars Attacks, Planet of the Apes, Sleepy Hollow, most of Big Fish); however, I really like Edward Scissorhands, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Batman, and Beetlejuice. Hopefully his new flim will join his best, 'cause he can do fantastic stories with the best of 'em.

Both ... actually ...

its near the bottom, after that... have fun with google, but yea he did base Wonka on Manson, I just noticed that they originally wanted Manson for the roll anyways.

Yeah I can't say that I liked those Burton films either ... I must be missing the 'Burton' gene.

Yeah Manson would be WAYYYYYY WAYYYYYYY (I saw Party Monster ;)) better than Johnny wannabe Manson.

Manson wanted to remake "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" on his own, but no Hollywood type would bite.

From the page I posted it said that Burton wanted to have him but couldn't make it work scheduling wise.... or is that Hollywood's way of saying he's TOO controversial for us?

Rory L. Aronsky

The page is completely wrong. Manson went at it his own way first and foremost. As for Burton wanting Manson, well, that's definitely Burton.

And yeah, it's also Hollywood's way of saying, "Controversy doesn't make us enough money."

doh! YA GOT ME!
Party Monster. right. Something tells me Burton would have "directed" him and not handed him a fistful of drugs and told him to act like a complete fucking spazz. Not that burton directing him was ever gonna happen as Rory pointed out.

Certain aspects of the original film disturbed the fuck out of me as a kid and I certainly wouldnt have minded seeing the malevolence level turned up to 11 on this one. It'd be nice to leave a megaplex truly disturbed every once in awhile.

All that being said, that trailer was immaculate and i look forward to seeing what Senor Burton has up his sleeve for us this time. He has his up's and down's, but none the less he always remains interesting and his signature style also remains unmistakable. This seems to be warming up to becoming a good year for Burton from what we've seen so far.

All I know is that when I saw the original (quaint by today's standards) in the early 70's, it warped my little mind! And Gene Wilder was so great in this role, I just can't see how anyone could top his performance. Now, don't make me start quoting lines from this movie!...

As for MPAA ratings, my favorite is "Mild Gore"... total nod to Chris there...heh!

Mine is Sexual Situations, Drug References, Strong Language; all associated with Teens

OR better yet Graphic Stylized Action Sequences

I think the MPAA is being paid by Jerry Bruckheimer Productions.

Ha! I actually downloaded the song (Thanks to CG's link) onto my sister's cellphone - and she uses it every time I call her.

When I went to watch Batman Begins in IMAX, there were only two trailers played. One for this 3D space film produced by Tom Hanks and the other was for Willy Wonka ... it's the same trailer we have in this thread, except imagine it approximately 5000 times larger. Super trippy.

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are a great combo, especially for this material. They have my $10.
