Whoa. Based on that trailer this seems a rather unCronenberg-like movie to actually be a Cronenberg project but to hell with all that, I'll be seeing it based on principal alone.

Cronenberg, like Lynch and Takashi Miike, tends to create from his unconscious mind. This seems very much a Cronenbergesque work. I'm there.

To me, every new Cronengerg film is an event. Even if it doesn't live up to expectations, it's still worth the full ticket price to see it on a giant screen in a theater setting. And with a title like A History of Violence, it's already off to a great start.

The thing with Cronenberg is that he's not trailer or clip friendly. It's hard to get a sense of anything he does from a 2 minute excerpt. Like Ebert says, a trailer is the movie that the studio wishes the director had made.
Still, it does look a lot more fun to watch than his last few outings.

There is one Cronenbergian theme that I can discern and that is a schism between perception and reality. It looks a lot warmer, visually, than any of his other films ... but who knows how much of the story of the film is presented in the trailer.
I'll be there with my nine-fifty when this puppy opens, that's for sure. And if you're looking for something more "expected" from Cronenberg, his next film Painkillers is based on a science fiction script he wrote himself.

I wonder if Cronenberg's ever going to make his bio-pic about Jim Clark?

It definitely will live up to all the expectations. Viggo's acting seems natural and even commendable. Maria Bello is so talented yet goes unnoticed most of the time. Besides Alec baldwin, she stole the show in The Cooler. Definitely watching this one.
