I don't wanna come off like a geek who wants to know the name of Vader's TIE fighter or some damn thing, but I have a question.

What the hell happened to Palpatine's face? He's fighting with Mace and then... his face gets screwed up. No explanation. If Mace did something to him, I'd expect Palpatine to go "ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!! MY FRIGGIN FACE!!!!!!!! GET A DOCTOR!!!!!!!"

But no... nothing!

So what happened? Was it his true face? I don't get it.

Also, if I may comment on the film... Jesus Jumping Anakin sure does turn on a dime don't he? I mean, I understand his reasoning and the writing is quite a bit better than Ep1 and 2, but Vader's back and forth between good and evil is a bit rushed to say the least. Still a great movie though. Easily in the top 3 best of the whole series.

1. Good question.
2. He sure did turn fast. It took three movies to explain that 15 minutes of transformation?
3. Best in the new trilogy? Sure... but was that a hard obstacle to overcome?

Palpatine is deformed because Mace is deflecting the lightning back at Palpatine. In other words, Palpatine is basically frying himself, and draining his own resources.

As for Anakin turning so quickly, yeah, I had the same complaint. One second he's all "What did I do" and sad, then he pledges to do whatever the Emperor wants to save Padme, which apparently means he has to go murder children. Wow, save wife and kid by killing other kids. Okay.

And in that scene, the Emperor even admits that he doesn't know how to save someone from dying. When Anakin's all "I'll do whatever if you teach me" the Emperor goes "Only one could do it, but I trust between the two of us we can figure it out," flat out admitting he doesn't know how to do shit. And Anakin STILL follows through...

My problem now is that, when I re-watch the originals, I will forever imagine the Emperor now, not as some sort of scary Satanic figure but rather as he looked during Windu's attack...

As a melted Alan Alda.

So now whenever I look at him, I imagine him, like, pulling pranks on the doctor from Providence and the dude who played the Martian Manhunter and then saying "This isn't a war, this is a murder".

I'm not complaining, it really fills out the backstory, to imagine the Emperor shacking up with Hotlips under a table in the middle of a fire fight.
