WoW, this looks amazing. Has anyone seen Winged Migration? I could see this being as impressive as that (maybe not quite). WM was mind blowing...simply beautiful.

I like penguins though...

Okay I have to say this just because I have an unhealthy interest in penguins, and why I went totally cookoo for Madagascar... but there is a Conspiracy that Penguins will take over the world! (for further information drop me a line)

But in all seriousness, a documentary in the style of Winged Migration and narr. by Freeman! about penguins ... I'm so there, there is something so cute and cuddly about penguins, their awkward walk, their majestic stance, and their devotion to family/community... this should be a great doc to watch cause to be quite honest I really don't want to go that far south to observe this first hand, so a doc (done like Winged Migration) should be the next best thing (I hope).

Exactly one reason movies exist....to do shit for us that we would never do. :D

So I just saw this yesterday, and I've gotta say that I had mixed feelings. The good stuff: amazing content, great life-or-death struggle, incredibly well filmed. No qualms there.

The bad stuff: it seemed like the directors/DPs had no clue how to cut what they had filmed. They would talk about males and females, for example, but the narration was cut so poorly with the footage that you couldn't tell which penguin they were talking about. After all...they're penguins, and maybe a penguin-phile can tell all of them apart, but they mostly look like a group of identical birds.

And I had very little idea of what the penguins were actually doing -- like is it really that hard for them to balance the egg while they walk? They look pretty good at it. If this film had been on The Discovery Channel, I would have found out.

All in all, this film was the equivalent of dangling puppies and candy canes in front of the audience for 80 minutes -- an instant, no brainer crowd pleaser.

Am I the only one who felt this way?

"March of the Penguins" is a great film, but it does not cover other penguin species who live further north. On behalf of equal time for these smaller, more active penguins, I offer the following 23 minute travelogue:

My film "There’s Something About Penguins” is the saga of how I survived Antarctica, featuring four delightful species of penguins, plus whales, seals, icebergs, glaciers, human outposts, unbelievable scenery, and much more. Antarctica is a visual delight. The video can be seen on the web, if you have a high speed internet connection.

This is a free, non-commercial, streaming video on the Windows Media Player. No ads and no strings attached. I sell absolutely nothing. My video site is:

With any modem you can view a new gallery of Antarctica photos featuring penguins at:

There are 29 of my other amateur travel videos on-line. Visit Italy, England, Peru, Bali, China, Hawaii, Russia, Mayan Pyramids, Greece, Turkey, or take an African safari; see whales, elephants, or polar bears.

The planet is yours, including my Home Page giant galaxy of still pictures at:
