I dug the Mutilation Man review by Mike Watt currently up on FT. I think TMM is a fascinating film, multi layered and engrossing. The director, Andy Copp, just recently completed his next production, Black Sun. I haven’t seen it yet, but Andy is a close friend and he’s sending me along a screener. If Mike is interested, perhaps I can see that he gets one as well. Thanks for the thoughtful review.

In the meantime, please check out Andy’s website:

Hi Mark,

Nothing like a response one year late, eh? I just ran into Andy at Twisted Nightmare and am planning a full-on interview with the man. I think his work on THE MUTILATION MAN is fantastic and I can't wait to check out BLACK SUN. (Hey, last year at T.N., it made Toby Radloff sick, so it must be fantastic!)

Thanks for the recommendation and the commendation.

Mike

Ha! I love a speedy response. Heh heh.

Mike, I met you last month in Baltimore, at the Horrorfind Convention. I bought a pile of Sub Rosa DVDs from you. Me and John Skipp were talking to you at one point and I said that I had interviewed him for Cemetery Dance Magazine. It was cool meeting you, dude.

Black Sun is a wild one. It makes The Mutilation Man look like a study in conventional narrative. It’s surely not for everyone, but those who like a challenge while watching a film should dig it.

Now that Jim Van Bebber is making a comeback with The Manson Family, it would be a good idea to push Mutilation Man. As I said, I consider it to be a hell of a film and I know that Andy worked his ass off making it. One refreshing thing about Copp…his passion for moviemaking is genuine and he is in no way involved in making them for the money. Sure, he likes being paid as much as the next guy, but no one in their right mind would make a feature like Black Sun with the idea of making a quick buck.

I forgot all about making this post and I was surprised to see a response in my mailbox. My two things are indie films and horror literature and I run the message board at Shocklines Bookstore and that leave sme no time for other forums. Of course, I read Film Threat on a regular basis and I will try to make time to check in here from time to time.

Thanks for the belated reply and tell Andy I said Hi. We go way back.

Oh and one more thing. I was very pleased to see more independent filmmakers at Horrorfind this year. It's a great Con and I think it's rapidly becoming one of the best horror conventions going today.

Hey Mark,

I remember you now. Thanks for the purchase. I think you made me about $4 that day (for which I'm grateful - that's a shot at the bar!) :D

I saw a cut of THE MANSON FAMILY way back when it was still CHARLIE'S FAMILY and always appreciated Van Bebber's intensity. THE MUTILATION MAN is a quieter disquiet, if that makes any sense.

Andy's a great guy and I'm honored to have met him the few times that I have. I'm sure he's very grateful for your support. If all things were equal, THE MUTILATION MAN would have found its audience by now!

Mike
