Okay, I haven't seen it, but I hear it's much better than expected, but you know it's going to be a draw. I'd like to see them do a live action version of Mad Monster Party. Yeah, big Movie Geek reference.

Funny thing about Mad Monster Party. Out of complete curiosity about the title, I went on amazon.com to search for it, and they're releasing it on DVD on August 19th.

Yep. What can I say? It's the greatest. It's basically a Godzilla movie, where you have two famous monsters beating the shit out of each other with everyone else around them having to deal with the massive damage.
I've never screamed or clapped so hard in a movie theater ever. Gonna go see it again tonight at the Dome. I'll be the guy in the Alf outfit.
The next installment?

haha. that was funny.
I saw Freddy vs. Jason over the weekend & I was almost thoroughly entertained. I didnt watch too many American horror/slasher/monster movies when I was growing up (though, i think i had probably seen all the Bond films). I've only seen the ending of one of the Elm Streets....this brunette girl was in a cathedral or church sanctuary & she kept repeating "youre not real/im not afraid of you/im just having a bad dream" spiel.
i was intrigued by the idea that two of the most well-known 80s horror figures would fight each other that i had to watch the movie.
Ronny Yu directed F vs. J, which i wasnt aware of until the ending credits came on. the only other films hes done that ive seen are a Hong Kong martial arts film called "Bride With the White Hair" (starring Brigitte Lin & the late Leslie Cheung), parts 1 & 2,

and Formula 51. i checked imdb just now & ..uh... he did Bride of Chucky too. i never have nor do i plan to see it, but for those of you who have, any consistencies btwn it & Freddy? as far as momentum of action or development of plot,,,etc?
his Chinese films are assuredly darker in tone and theme, but his american ones seem to incorporate humor whenever possible. & not just your obligatory/average comic relief witty remark or gag routine either.
Ronny also did Warriors of Virtue.....which i also have never nor do i plan to see.

My overall opinion: the writer/producers had some neat ideas, but they ended up with some popcorn fun with some terrible dialogue. Most of the movie centers around the teens in the movie... not a good decision. It only gets fun at the last third of the flick.
SPOILER:
Don't listen to people who tell you who wins. They are totally wrong. They aren't paying attention to what's actually happening in the last shot of the movie. They are dead wrong. Trust me on this. There is a winner... and it's not who most people are saying.

So Jason sticks the machete into the power board and gets the jolt of his afterlife. My friend leans over and whispers, "One of these days I'm gonna have to invent something called a fuse so this kind of thing can't happen." Let's hear it for the science dorks.

Oh c’mon. It was a bloated piece of crap. The monsters were ineffectual. No menace left in them whatsoever. The climactic fight scenes were clunky & broke no new ground. Not innovative at all. The one-liners weren’t even clever. The only thing mildly entertaining was the unusual frankness of some of Fred’s perversions. But that’s only in comparison to the ultra-lameness of the majority of current horror offerings. That aspect of the movie’s just a throwback to slashers’ heyday. Here’s an online review I just did about it in comic strip format. Click here to see it: “Being forgotten; now that’s a bitch” –Freddy Krueger (http://www.snubdom.com/MPfreddyjason.htm)

This is my thirteen year old son's opinion for the movie Freddy vs. Jason so don't take anything out on me. Here we go...
I don't understand why people who saw the movie before me said that Jason won when at the end of the movie it shows that both him and Freddy are both still around. I think it was a rip off. Why did they put in the title 'vs.' when they should have just put 'and'. There was no winner! Granted, the fights and gore were awesome, but you know, one of the bad guys had to go and niether one of them did. How many more sequels do these people want us to see with these guys? I felt jipped and wanted to share it with all of you. Later.

Why did they put in the title 'vs.' when they should have just put 'and'.
Quite simple. Money. If it was "Freddy and Jason", devoted fans would likely see it, but anyone else who has heard of the films or have seen a few aren't likely to check it out.
"Freddy vs. Jason" is a title that looks like it promises a knock-down drag-out fight. People start talking about who the winner might be, hype starts building up and more people go to see it.
Sure it may be dishonest, but the money talks.

"...he did Bride of Chucky too. i never have nor do i plan to see it, but for those of you who have, any consistencies btwn it & Freddy? as far as momentum of action or development of plot,,,etc?"
The only consistency would be the color, that dark and beautiful mood and ambience that Ronny has a gift for. Of course, it goes without saying that it was much more well-orchestrated in the case of "Freddy Vs. Jason" than it was in the aforementioned Child's Play installment. But that's just one man's opinion.
My only problem with "Bride of Chucky" was the kitschy, self-referential shit. Like towards the beginning when Tiffany is scouring the police HQ for Charles Lee Ray's remains. She sees a hockey mask, Freddy's glove, shit like that. Haven't we seen this so many times before? (case in point: VHS cover/one-sheet poster for Sleepaway Camp; Screams 1-3; every low-budget Kevin Williamson/Wes Craven rip-off under the sun)
Even for all its lame ass fledgling actors with bad facial expressions (The character of Will was played with a countenance of utter confusion in much the same way Hayden Christenson portrayed Anakin Skywalker...it's supposed to be a scene of romance and he's given Amidala a look like he wants to smash her face in with a shovel), F V J managed to transcend the trappings of the genre and rise to a new high, a zenith never before reached by either the Nightmare movies or the Friday the 13th flicks.
Jason looked perfect, Freddy...well, Freddy was just Freddy (,i.e.: the Durante-esque harlequin of slasher cinema), and our heroine was gorgeous AND vengeful just the way we like 'em. Mad props to Monica Keena for taking a role that was pretty cardboard and turning in some great wide-eyed terror and excitement.
Having been a lifelong fan of both series, I was naturally looking forward to Freddy Vs. Jason from the word "go". But that word was a long time coming. For those of you who don't know, don't remember or just don't give a rip, F V J was in development hell since the mid-90's, and I can actually remember reading a draft in high school wherein Freddy was the Marquis de Sade and the hero's name was Trent (as in Reznor). Very lame ass idea; I'm glad they finally settled on something more austere and satisfying.
Another idea, one that was mentioned on the Freddy Vs. Jason DVD was the initial idea to have Freddy and Jason resurrected by a cult of Krueger acolytes known as...ready for this?...FRED HEADS. Although the Nightmare series has seen its share of corny and tongue-in-cheek moments, to lens a Versus movie with as many high expectations as this one had and put something as ridiculous as that in the foreground would be not only bold but arrogant and uncaring.
What's amazing to me is the fact that the young writers behind this installment weren't even fans of either series. To take two non-horror buffs and sit them down to write a movie as important to the fans as this one would normally be regarded as an upheaval of Biblical proportions. But in retrospect, it's a good thing they did.
Unlike the jerk-offs who came up with all the stale concepts that preceded the final shooting script, [Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift had the advantage of going into it as Freddy & Jason virgins. It is this fact, I think, that is probably responsible for the originality, vision and smarts that made their way into the final product.
People can say whatever they want about how the end was a cheat and what a rip-off it was to see Freddy's severed head popping out of the water, but let's face it, it was the only way to satisfy both camps. And by camps, I mean the "Fred Heads" and the Vorhees fiends, not Crystal Lake. Which, by the way, has never looked as ominous as it did under the supervision of Swift, Shannon and Yu.
Question is, will there be a rematch?...and will they find a way to put Freeburg together again? Why do they always have to kill the stoner?!
Favorite Scene: Rapist Raver covered in glow-sticks getting impaled on pole and then flung up into the sky like a shooting star. Is this a homage to Jason's fate at the end of "Jason X"? Maybe? Maybe?
Bottom Line: Jason clothes-lined that Krueger perv like a little biznitch!
