Why the hell do they have to make DVD menus so annoying in terms of audio? Nothing like being woken up in the middle of the night because the film you fell asleep to has ended and left you with the grating, looped audio of a DVD menu kicking you in the ass.
One that comes to mind is the menu for "Spun." That phone ringing over and over again will make you tear your hair out.

Funny you should mention that. I had disc 1 of the 24 Season Two set in the DVD player late last night because I wanted to try to finally get through 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.'s "Deleted Scenes and Alternate Takes". Well, around the 10 minute mark, sleep really started to creep in fast and I was hoping to make it until the end so I could finally get to 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Next thing I know, I'm woken up by this blaring music on the TV. Turns out it was the music they use for the end credits of every "24" episode and it also serves as the music for the menus. As it turns out, it was around 4 in the morning by then.
I like the end credit music for "24", but geez!!!! I'm glad my parents' bedroom is tucked deep within the house so they didn't hear it looping over and over again. Either that, or they were also worn out from the excursion to Universal yesterday (which was the main reason for my falling asleep like I did in front of the TV).

Glad to see I'm not the only one who hates loud menus. I like watching movies when I'm struck with insomnia, and loud menus always wake me up when the movie finishes.
I respect DVDs that either: a.) go silent after a few loops; or b.) don't have any noise at all.
Two offenders off the top of my head:
Donnie Darko's menu is especially annoying (bad thunder clap sounds). A Knight's Tale loops a cacaphonous cheese-guitar tune.

Actually the best DVDs are the ones that just start the movie over again.

Of course it depends on the movie, but yeah, I agree with you.

Occasionally, a DVD surprises you, though.
Me, Myself & Irene is designed so that, if you let the "nice" menus play long enough, they change into "Hank"-style menus. All the same options, but different art, text, and audio.
Personally, I hate the discs that start the movie for you. I don't want my technology thinking for me. And, if the audio on the menu is annoying, I go for the MUTE button.
