SW DVD Changes Confirmed (from www.theforce.net )
Fri, Sep 03, 04 02:07:56 AM EDT
The DarkLord files this report after cracking open a case of SWE DVDs. We'll have our hands on a few copies next week, so we'll give you the full rundown:
I work for a retail store and today we got in our SW trilogy dvds and I would like to confirm some of the changes to the movies. In episode IV they did clean Jabba up he still looks fake but better. Ian did infact redo the Emperor's scenes with new dialog in empire, and finally yes they did add Naboo to the ending of Jedi as well as add Hayden to the end of Jedi as well.
Again yes it is confirmed I have seen them with my own two eyes.

What I want to know is if they finally decided to clean up that weird little black, airbrushed looking blob that hovers around near the emperor's right eye in Rot J.
That's been pissing me off for years.

See that sort of stuff wouldnt have bothered me much, but Lucas went at the classics with a pair of scissors and elmers glue and butchered A New Hope and Jedi(Empire Special wasnt bad IMHO).

That's just the sort of thing that annoys me. It causes the whole suspension of belief/vacation from reality thing to, at least momentarily, collapses in upon itself. It's like the glass sheild between Harrison Ford and the snakes in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Glaringly obvious in the original release and completely neglected in the ramastered re-issues to video a few years back.
They spend so much time and money on digitally remastering their movies, cleaning up sound and video, improving upon gags that may have not worked so well, adding scenes, deleting scenes but they can't repair one glaring fuckup that effectively reduces the whole movie, even if only momentarily, into a cardboard disaster.
How hard would it have been to digitally blend that little floating blob of black into the emperor's cowl a little better? With the software at their disposal it could have been done in about ten minutes for very minimal cost, I'm sure.
Maybe it's just me but if I'm going to invest time and money into a movie then, certain films from certain directors, should be as close to a seamless experience as possible. A low budget quickie is one thing, be it Godzilla or some indie or student effort, a multi-million dollar blow out is held to a different set of standards though.

Wonder if they "fixed" Alec Guiness' lightsaber fizzle during the duel of the first flick. Another case of "you Frankenstein'd this movie and you couldn't be bothered to fix that?"

Heard more news that the Greedo shooting first scene was changed again, but not back to normal. Han and Greedo shoot at the same time now.

Along the same lines, I could never understand why the Millennium Falcon's targeting computers still look like something out of Atari's "Asteroids."

Of all this work on Lucas' films (THX plus S.W.), why not re-master his biggest hit, Howard the Duck? Imagine how much cash that would rake in?

Isn't Jar Jar just a retelling of the same story?
