Good idea or not?

Hard to say. Clerks is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I really would like to see where Smith takes it. The on-screen chemistry between O'Halloran and Anderson is good, and having worked in retail... well, it's like I know those guys. (In fact, I was a lot like Randal when I worked retail. Needless to say, it was a short-lived job.)
What the hell. I'll give it a chance.

I can just imagine the Star Wars bashing in this one. I think it is a good idea, but one never knows if it will come out as good as we hope.
Hmmm. I dunno. While it would be interesting to see where they are all at now, seeing that crowd grown up would be kind of a buzz kill. I think that is why the movie worked, because everyone was young, had shit jobs...everyone could relate. I don't know if there will be an audience for it other than fans of the first movie, but as Baron promised, I too will give it a chance.

It'll just be more bad acting and stilted dialogue written by a much overrated blowhard. But guess it will be in color and lit a bit better than the original turd.

I enjoyed the acting and dialogue. And the black and white doesn't bother me. They did a great job with the money they had.
I don't like everything being "redone". There does come a time when you leave it alone. In my opinion, they made the movie, now keep moving on.

They're not re-doing it, they're making a sequel set ten years after the first movie ended. The thread title is misleading, as this is "The Passion of the Clerks: Clerks 2" and not "Clerks Redux."
For the record, all "Clerks" fans should pick up the "Clerks X" set when it comes out next Tuesday. The doc on it is worth the price alone AND it's loaded with so much more.

Thanks sorry:rolleyes:
I STILL don't like redoing movies. But I do like Clerks.

It's all in the script.
But I don't think he's really written anything compelling since Chasing Amy. I watched Dogma the other day and I felt like I was watching high school drama class.

Hate to admit it, but I kind of liked Jersey Girl. And I am not really the biggest fan of Kevin Smith. I like Chasing Amy and Clerks, some what liked Dogma. But the other two I erased from memory.

Just for the record, because I know everyone's waiting with baited breath, my opinion on Kevin Smith: overrated hack who's undeniable love of movies translates into the occasional great moment.
Clerks was somewhat inspired, but he never pulled it all together that well again.
I thought that Dogma had some great stuff in it,... the "Buddy Christ" is brilliant, but in the end it is weighed down by a third-rate high school poop-joke sensibility.
Mallrats- unfocused mess with a few good jokes, showcased his shortcomings as a director.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back I actually liked more than I thought I would. The inside jokes get tiresome but the chemisty between Smith and Mewes is undeniable, making them formidable candidates for this generation's "fat guy/skinny guy" comedy team.
And finally, Chasing Amy. How do I hate this movie? Let me count the ways. What a horrible piece of crap this film is. As an esteemed colleague quiped not long ago, "the whole movie is people making speeches at each other." It's the worst script I have ever come across in a well-reviewed film. It's attempts at being deep fall short by a mile and a half. The acting is distractingly bad. I have absolutely no clue how this thing ever got a single positive review, it is so awful. Bad movie, bad!
So in the end, I'm pretty mixed on Smith. The Clerks sequel has the potential to be a harmless, albeit meaningless popcorn chuckler ala J&SBSB, but I would have been more interested in seeing what he would have done with The Green Hornet, since it's about time that someone tried making a less serious superhero movie.

I enjoyed Clerks and Mallrats and Jay/Bob Strike Back. Amy and Dogma did nothing for me. I am crossing my fingers for the Clerks 2.

In its own context, I think Chasing Amy is a great flick. So what if it's a bunch of monologues? It's like taking a dump on Mamet because his dialogue doesn't seem natural.

So you're saying, "so what if it sucks, that doesn't mean it sucks"???
And it's not just the script, which is just terrible, but the acting and directing as well. Terrible, terrible movie.

The only way I see it working is if Dante gets laid off from his job working for some decent factory job... which is a nightmare because it is him and his wife's first Christmas together (wife could be a Sarah Silverman type... a school teacher who served in the Iraqi war). He could be coming out of the quik shop from picking up some diapers and bump into Randall. Randall explains to him that he manages the Big Choice video store that took over the old video store that he worked at.... which could be funny because then it would mean that there are 2 Big Choices within a stone's throw from each other.
Randall decides that since he will need help, he decides to let Dante work with him... provided that Dante remember that Randall is the head man in charge. This is fine with Dante because Dante thinks he'd only need to work there for a few days... until his job calls him back. Right? Or so he hopes... because fellow factory workers show up at the shop with new job related rumors. Want another problem? Randall's sister (who also works there) reveals that she used to REALLY like him. In addition, some crazy fanboy customer named Hall sights Dante as his new mortal enemy... because Hall had been wanting to work at the video store for years (in hopes of being the next QT)... and Dante, "The Undeserving", slid in and stole the opportunity.
During the excitement, in comes Jay and Silent Bob who are hanging in and waiting until midnight... because that is when the Ben Affleck box-office hit Phantoms (Ultra-Special Edition DVD) goes on sale -- and they can't wait. They've heard on Movie Poop Shoot that there is supposed to be this hidden Easter egg on it that shows five seconds of secret footage featuring Rose McGowan's "clam" - or that's what Jay thinks he read.

I thought I was making the point that Mamet's films are good. It doesn't matter that his dialogue doesn't sound natural.
