Anchor Bay must love Romero fans. It seems that no matter how full a DVD release is, they always find new shit to put on another. I bought the Dawn of the Dead DVD a few months ago, but now it appears I have to do it again. You bastards.

They even fuck Raimi and Carpenter fans. How many Holloweens? How many Army of Darknesses? Now, how many Dawn of the Deads?

I believe someone on this board coined the perfect reply to this business strategy with the phrase "Anchor Bay Army of Darkness variant of the month club." Seems appropriate.

In all fairness to Anchor Bay (at least in regards to Dawn of the Dead), they did announce this 4-disc edition of the film at the same time as their announcement for the single-disc version. So the majority of the film's fans have known about it this whole time and have held off on buying it til now.

Of course, I can't say the same for all those Halloween and Army of Darkness discs. That's just plain greed and bullshit on Anchor Bay's part.

I bought the original 2-disc Halloween years ago. I've avoided all subsequent releases, avoided that is, till the 25 ann. edition came out with Carpenter commentary. Carpenter commentaries are some the best in the land. So, I doubled dipped. Sadly, the commentary feels like an edited down job from an older laserdisc or from interviews from previous released doc. Anyone know for sure? 'Cause The Thing & Bg Trouble in Little China it ain't.

That said I will most definitely bust the 4-disc style on Sept. 7 fo' sho'!!!

Bizzlejig is right about Anchor Bay playing fair about the deluxe Dawn package. (The single disc that came out a few months ago was just to get some scratch from the average shopper due to the big screen remake, as I understand it.)

Anchor Bay has been promoting this release for years; in fact, the uber-Dawn was supposed to be out in 2003, but it was repeatedly bumped to add new features.

I saw it at Best Buy yesterday and it was like 35 bucks. I'll get it later, like when some birthday checks come. Even though my birthday is FAR away.

Whether you buy the 'SUPER SPECIAL COOL PLATINUM' edition of whatever today, they're still going to come out with an anniversary edition, eventually if they can make a couple extra bucks.

Frankly I hate it, it makes me reluctant to buy any movie I like.

I don't think anyone can really add on to what this Anchor Bay four disc set already offers.

This four disc set that is at this very moment clenched tightly in my sweaty palms.
:swoon:
Haven't watched any of the discs yet but I just tore into the box, nice packaging which includes two booklets, one is an index of features on each disc the second is a glossy little comic book adaptation of DotD. Frankly, the comic kinda sucks and doesn't add anything to the experience. The art is lame and the writing shows signs of selective self-editing. For instance, rather adolescent displays of anatomically incorrect gore are on display throughout while racial slurs have been excluded from the text displaying what I suspect to be a fear driven pseudo-PC disregard for how race relations played as a (minor) subtext in the original story. But who cares about that, we're here for the movies not a lame comic book adaptation. I'll log in with my rants and raves as I make my way through these discs.

I realize I may be late to respond here but, I just joined this site...I bought the DOTD ultimate edition just last month and I thought it was awesome...I really enjoyed the documentaries espcially the one entiltled the dead will walk...It was great seeing the actors who played in the movie...I liked the europian version of the film, the way they added scence but, the soundtrack was just too much for me...It seemed to just go on and on but all and all it is an awesome edition to own...I have been a fan of DOTD for years and was disappointed that they came out with a remake...
