Originally titled "Unchain My Heart", this movie looks very interesting and has the potential in my humble opinion to be a serious Oscar contender. I'm sure this will be a very hard for some to watch since Mr. Charles did pass away earlier this year... but from what I can see, this movie looks like it will be a very touching tribute to a man who was one of the best musicans of the 20th Century. Will this be Jamie Foxx's big break and possible his first nomination? I think it's possible. Check it the trailer and tell me what you think...

Foxx seems to be following the career path of Jim Carrey. Some mediocre comedies at first, then seriousness. He was good in Collateral, and this Ray business looks like a nomination is in his future indeed. It is ashame that Ray passed before this film was released though.

Then, realizing that he couldn't make all his money on drama ("The Majestic" didn't do terrific business), he went back to a combo of comedy and drama, re-teaming with director Tom Shadyac for "Bruce Almighty" and then doing "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", and now there's going to be "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" which allows him to mug like hell under makeup and "Over the Hedge", in which he voices a raccoon. I think he'll be back in comedy for a long time.

No doubt Foxx was known for comedy, but he has done drama long before "Collateral" got him fully noticed. His role as a football player in "Any Given Sunday" was very good. He did do some comedy in "Bait", but that wasn't all of it when he was battling the John Malkovich wannabe (Doug Hutchinson). He played Drew 'Bundini' Brown in Ali, which showed that he had something. I haven't seen that TV movie he did called "Redemption". Now he has "Collateral" and "Ray", but he's still mixing it with a bit of comedy, such as in "Breakin' All the Rules" which came before both films and was nothing to remember. However, Foxx probably will keep a mixture of comedy and drama going as he sees fit. The film that'll come after "Ray" is "Stealth", directed by Rob Cohen. A mixture indeed.

Indeed. His acting in Ali was top notch as it was in Any Given Sunday. A far stretch from his earlier Booty Call works. Sadly, after Any Given Sunday, he returned to crap with Bait and Held Up. But, Ali showed us he was back. It looks like he is going to keep it that way too.

I agree its a shame he couldn't be here for the release, but its not like he would have been able to watch it... right? ;)

True, but some theaters have those descriptive service things. Put on the headphones and it's described to you what's going on screen.

I'm sure he didn't need to see the movie anyway. With the exception of a few likely Hollywood flourishes, he lived it.
